If the dog has not joined yet
Follow Robyn’s early quest chain in Horizon until Dog Days directs you to Bone Cave. The published rescue walkthrough says to bring a Bandage and raw Meat, treat the injured dog and then feed it; completion makes it follow you. That article was updated October 8, before the October 9 Early Access release, so use the live interaction prompt rather than copying its older E binding blindly.[1]
Choose the interaction for the job
| Your goal | Documented PC interaction | Check afterward |
|---|---|---|
| Open the pack | Aim at the dog and tap F. | The dog’s storage appears as a Container panel. |
| Give a nearby command | Aim at the dog and hold F. | Choose Follow or Stay according to the current state. |
| Call or stop from a distance | Open the Q radial menu and choose the dog-head option. | Look for Call Dog / Stop, not an inventory action. |
AllThingsHow’s October 11 screenshots document these prompts. They also show Stay alert and Search for items in the nearby wheel. Follow your remapped controls if the on-screen keys differ; this site has not tested controller equivalents.[2]
Before calling the dog stuck
- If you have not completed Dog Days, finish the rescue interaction first. Choosing a dog during character creation does not complete the rescue.
- If you told it to Stay, select Follow from its current command menu. Use the distant call/stop option when it is out of reach.
- If you are a guest in co-op, ask the host what they see. The developer lists an issue where guests see a moving harness without the dog.
- If the host also cannot recover it, report the session and what happened. Do not treat repeated Unstuck Me use as a verified dog repair.
The developers confirm one host-owned dog and the guest harness display issue. Their known-issues post also warns that Unstuck Me can put the player in another obstruction.[3]
Use the pack without losing track of supplies
The documented pack has 15 slots and offers Take all. Check the receiving inventory before using that option, and unload into storage when you return. There is no tested breed-based capacity ranking here.[2]
Keep your immediate recovery items where you can reach them. If you choose to leave the dog at base, plan your carried supplies around that choice instead of counting its pack as available storage during the trip. For world and guest-character ownership, see the co-op guide.
